Alicante Airport is located on the Costa Blanca, in the area of El Altet. Which is approx 9 KM from Alicante centre. In April 2011 Alicante opened its brand spanking new airport to handle the increase in passengers.

Alicante Airport is now a grand operation and is a pleasant upgrade on the previous airport. Alicante is an extremely popular destination and travellers arrive from all over the world. The new terminal has been opened in order to handle the ever increasing number of passengers and to offer a more modern entrance into one of the most beautiful regions of Spain. The airport is extremely busy over the summer months, when the promise of hot sunshine, lazy beaches and sizzling cocktails pull in the tourists!

The Airport has stunning modern architecture and it is pleasant, clean and comfortable.

You exit your plane via a moveable walkway. Depending on where you exit from there is quite a walk from the plane through to the area that you collect your baggage.

These photos taken in August 2011 show that we had quite a walk!

The one thing I will say about our first visit to the new Airport is that it was absolutely spotless, which I hope comes across in these photos.

TIP: There is quite a walk from the plane to the baggage collection point. There is NOT a toilet between the two points. When you reach the baggage collection point there are toilets at one end of the baggage collection hall and another set of toliets right at the other end. My advice is to go before you get off the plane!

There are a large number of baggage collection carousels and in August 2011 we waited one hour for our baggage. Be Prepared!

In the baggage collection area there are shops, flight information points and toilets.

As you exit the baggage collection area there are some information points about the Alicante airport taxis and Alicante airport buses.

If you click on the image on the left hand side you will be taken to a larger image where you can see the timetable more clearly. Please note that this is from August 2011 and is not kept up to date. Please see the ALSA website for up to date information.

There were also some discount vouchers being handed out for Terra Mitica, Aqualandia, Aqua Natura - if they are there when you pass through then do remember to pick them up if you are planning on visiting these attractions.

Once through the doors you are in the main Arrivals area. Here is where you can access your car hire or relatives, friends can collect you. Do pre-book your car, it is worth it!

Tourist Information

The Tourist Information booth is situated right outside the Arrivals point. When we arrived in the evening the Information booth was closed. There was however a small Information stand situated to the left of the Arrivals.

The Airport is conveniently situated next to the main roads the A7, A31 and the N340. Once you have collected your baggage you will find that in a few minutes you can be on these roads, making your way North or South, exploring the delights of Spain.

Alicante Airport

Please note, if you are travelling North on the motorway from Alicante (if for example you are travelling towards Valencia) the following information is relevant to you.

Many of the junctions between Alicante and Benidorm have had their numbers changed and may not correspond to your map. Our tip is to stay on the AP7 for Valencia and you will be fine! Your exit will be clearly signposted, it is just the numbers that have changed!

Organising your transfer is extremely important to ensure your holiday starts off on the right foot! Whenever we arrive at the airport the children have usually driven me to distraction, we are all tired, frazzled and just want to get to our destination as quickly and safely as possible!
