El Castell de Guadalest Spain

A Family's Visit to This Historical Town

I want to start with our secret parking spaces!! If you are visiting Guadalest you have to know about this place. As you drive into Guadalest you will turn left and drive down a steep hill. The paying car park is at the bottom of this hill. Before you reach the bottom of this hill take a right turn and drive along a 100 yards and right in front of you will be stony ground. You can park here for free! Even in the height of August this parking area was empty. (Need a hire car? See our recommended Alicante Car Hire).

A picture of my secret parking space in Guadalest (which is no longer a secret since I have just spilled the beans :-) )

Please note: Taking a pram / pushchair would be difficult to push up the steep cobbled streets. The same can be said for wheelchair users.

Why would you visit Guadalest?

El Castell de Guadalest is visited by more than 2 million people a year. For a town with only 200 inhabitants this says that there must be something special about Guadalest.

In 1974 El Castell de Guadalest was declared a historical and artistic monument and it is easy to see why.

Guadalest has many museums, a castle, a church, restaurants, small hotels but it's jewel in the crown is the scenery. Have a look at these stunning photos that I took on our last visit.

These stunning views are the reason why visitors flock to Guadalest.

It's beautiful location is formed by 3 of the highest mountains in the area. Sierra Xortà (1126 m) is in the North, to the South is the Sierra Aitana (1558 m), and to the West you can see Sierra Serrella (1361 m).

Tip: Take plenty of water because it gets very hot here. Make sure you have sun cream for the children. Do visit the castle. If you pay to enter the castle then you can reach the heights within Guadalest and the view just gets better and better.

We always aim to get to Guadalest between 10.00 and 10.30. It can get extremely busy, especially in the height of Summer. The earlier you arrive the easier it is to capture the perfect photograph!

Guadalest for Children

There are museums and a park within Guadalest. As well as the new boat ride that takes tourists out on the dam. Everyone from the young to the old will adore guadalest but please be aware that there is a sttep walk to the top of the town and it is not suitable for wheelchair users.
