This archaeological site is on a place known as El Tossal de Manises, in a neighborhood known as Albufereta. This site is 3 km outside Alicante centre towards Benidorm. Follow the Avinguda de la Vila Joiosa which becomes Avinguda de Condomina and you should be able to access the Roman remains from here. It is a 5 minute walk from the tram station (Albufereta).
The first Alicante developed here. The Greeks gave this Iberian settlement the name of Akra Leuke ('white peak') and from this came the Roman name of Lucentum and the Arab name of Alacant. Lucentum is the name of the Roman predecessor of the city of Alicante. Now, Lucentum refers to the archaeological site in which the remains of this ancient settlement lie.
These Valencian Community remains remains are extremely important and they cover 5 hectares and 2.5 hectares correspond to the ancient city. At this old trading site you can examine the old walls, domi, termae, streets and shops that were there from the 4th century BC until the 3rd century AC. Talk about going back in time!
In the Summertime these old ruins come alive with organised cultural activities and trips.
